Felice Jacobs

Boots Teacher Practitioner, Strathclyde University

Healthcare Academy Trainer, Boots UK

Felice obtained her BSc Hons from the University of Strathclyde and completed her preregistration year with Boots in East Kilbride. After qualification Felice worked as a community pharmacist with Boots in and around the Glasgow area before taking on her current role of Boots Teacher practitioner.

Through her role as Boots Teacher Practitioner (TP), Felice provides the link between the University and Boots, and acts as a point of contact for students wishing to learn more about placements with Boots such as work placements and Preregistration training.

Learning and Development

All Boots Teacher Practitioners are part of the Learning and Development team at the support office in Nottingham where they have the title of Healthcare Academy Trainer . This means that they are involved in a whole range of development opportunities, and contribute to the design of key programmes which are rolled out to many different pharmacy populations within Boots (pharmacists, accuracy checking pharmacy technicians, prereg trainees and pharmacy undergraduates).

The Teacher Practitioner also liaises closely with the Boots Resourcing Team. These are the people involved in recruiting for Boots. This means that if you have any queries regarding employment with Boots, then Felice is your first point of contact.

 Undergraduate pharmacy students

Teaching of professional subjects falls within the remit of the Boots TP. Generally this teaching involves Pharmacy Practice subjects.

Work placements

Felice will publicise any job vacancies through the university network and will provide information about any up coming placements that are supported by the company.

Preregistration Trainees

The prereg training year in Boots is one that is busy, challenging and fun! The diary is always full with training events and development opportunities, which include off-job clinical days, professional development days as well as the opportunity to complete audit and business projects. In addition to all of this there is a Professional Pharmacy Conference for all Boots prereg trainees. This is one of the highlights of the year where trainees get the chance to meet lots of new people and learn lots about the future of pharmacy as a Boots pharmacist. Preregistration training and development forms a significant part of Felice’s role as Boots TP.

Newly Qualified Pharmacists

All newly qualified pharmacists in Boots continue on their professional development as a Boots pharmacist through participation in the foundation programme which is designed to develop both the professional and business aspects of their role and is linked with the RPS programme.

Pharmacists

Supporting and training our Pharmacists is extremely important to Boots and that is why a huge investment has been made to provide CPD opportunities for every employed pharmacist in the company. The Boots TPs are involved in designing and delivering these events and Felice supports the delivery of this event across Scotland.

Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technicians (ACPTs)

We have a number of ACPTs supporting our pharmacists in Boots stores. ACPTs have the responsibility for accuracy checking prescriptions once they have been clinically checked by a pharmacist and assembled by another dispenser. To qualify as an ACPT, technicians must undertake a further period of training and assessment. Assessment involves a review of their portfolio of evidence, a Perofessional Discussion and an online assessment where the pass mark is 100%. Felice is responsible for the ACPT portfolio reviews and Professuional Discussions of ACPT candidates.
